Wind Powered Energy Systems

On June 28, 2011, the Cedar Hill City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2011-442, which amends the Cedar Hill Zoning Code to include Personal Wind Powered Generators as an authorized land use, under certain conditions.

The ordinance allows wind powered generators up to 25 Kw in size. They must be of monopole construction and cannot be located within the building setbacks, or extend above the maximum height specified by the zoning district in which the system is located. Taller wind powered generators, up to 110 feet tall, are allowed provided it is set back from all property lines at least 3 times the height of the system.
Noise, access, and safety features are also addressed by the ordinance. A building permit is required before construction and all systems are required to be installed in accordance with manufactures specifications and city codes.
