In early 2009, the Cedar Hill City Council appointed a 7 member committee to conduct an in-depth review and analysis of the City’s current gas well [drilling] regulations, as well as those of surrounding cities. The committee completed their work and presented their findings to the City Council in August of that year.

The Committee met on Thursday evenings, twice a month, at 6:30 p.m. at the Government Center, 285 Uptown Blvd. Bldg. 100 in the Court/Multi-Purpose Room, located on the 1st floor. The meetings were open to the public and agendas were posted at the Government Center.

Meeting 1
(February 12, 2009) - Committee received their charge and a notebook of relevant ordinances. Staff briefed the Committee on Cedar Hill's current ordinances and provided a list of helpful gas drilling websites. The Committee identified "first impression" issues to be addressed in the ordinance and asked for some lessons learned from other cities. (See APPROVED MINUTES )

Meeting 2 (February 26, 2009) - The Committee reviewed a presentation from Chesapeake Energy that described the basics of gas drilling and pipeline operations. Additionally, the Committee discussed a list of key issues discussed at their previous meeting and lessons learned from area cities.

Meeting 4 – (March 26, 2009) - Continue discussion of key issues to be addressed and regulated in the ordinance. (See APPROVED MINUTES )

Meeting 5 - (April 16, 2009) - Continue discussion of key issues to be addressed and regulated in the ordinance. (APPROVED MINUTES )

Meeting 6 - (April 30, 2009) - Finalize discussion of key issues to be addressed and regulated in the ordinance. (See APPROVED MINUTES )

Meeting 7 - (May 7, 2009) - Discussion regarding Gas Well Ordinance Comparison Matrix. Identify any unresolved issues and direct Staff to prepare an outline of items to be included in a draft ordinance for Committee review. (See APPROVED MINUTES )

Meeting 8 - (June 11, 2009) - Review and finalize reports to City Council. (See APPROVED MINUTES )

Workshop (August 27, 2009) - The City Council and the Gas Well Steering Committee met on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in the Court/Multi-Purpose Room, located on the 1st floor of the Government Center, 285 Uptown Blvd., Bldg. 100 to review and discuss the
Gas Well Steering Committee's report and recommendations. This meeting was open to the public.
