Solar Panel Energy Systems

On May 12, 2015, the Cedar Hill City Council adopted Path Ordinance No. 15-557-A, establishing development standards for solar energy systems.  The intent of these regulations is to allow solar energy systems in a manner that balances the benefits to the homeowner with little impact to the neighbors.

In general, the ordinance also allows roof  mounted solar panels in all zoning districts. Additionally, ground mounted systems are allowed provided they are located behind the main structure and comply with the setbacks and the height standards for accessory buildings.  Solar Farms or places where solar panel systems are the primary use are allowed in all zoning districts contingent upon receiving conditional use permit approval from City Council.

A building permit is required prior to the installation of a solar panel system.
