1. Are you hiring firefighters? What are the requirements to become a firefighter?

We hire on an 'as needed' basis. In the newest round of testing we require:
1) Current National Registered Paramedic

2) Certified, Certifiable Firefighter through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
Prefer but not required.

2. How do I get an ambulance call report?

EMS Chief Kevin Cunningham is the designated contact for EMS records. You can reach him Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at 972.291.1011.

3. Can I burn brush or trash in Cedar Hill?

The Cedar Hill City Council passed Ordinance 2002-127 on November 12, 2002, effective immediately, which prohibits all outdoor open burning except for approved TNRCC commercial trench sites. Commercial trench sites approved by TNRCC must also have a permit issued by the Fire Marshall's Office, which may include further restrictions.

This does not prohibit campfires in an approved fire-ring (state park), barbeque grills, masonry patio grills, chimeras, etc.

4. What is the Ambulance Subscription Program?

The Ambulance Subscription Program provides emergency ambulance service for your household for $60.00 per year.

5. What is ELF & Friends?

ELF & Friends, is a program that is operated by the Cedar Hill Professional Fire Fighters Association and the Cedar Hill Police Association. This program helps provide Christmas gifts for children up to the age of 15 and for Senior Citizens 62 and older.

Applications are taken at the Grady M. Lamb Community and Police Services building 601 E. Belt Line Rd. on Friday's & Saturday's from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM, starting October 15, 2010 until November 20, 2010.

Qualifications:

1. Applicant must have a current Texas Drivers License with their Cedar Hill address. The applicant must live in Cedar Hill.

2. The applicant must show proof of residency, with a lease or utility bill, not a cell phone bill.

3. The applicant needs a report card for each school age child, or a birth certificate for each non-school age child. The children must attend Cedar Hill schools.

4. The applicant must show proof of income, with a recent check stub and last years income tax return. We will use the HHS 2010 Poverty Guidelines plus 125% to qualify applicants.

6. Why is a fire engine sent when I call for an ambulance?

A fire engine is automatically sent as a first responder when a MICU is assigned to a Heart Attack, Unconscious Person, or a Major Accident type call. Additionally, if the assigned MICU is greater than 6 minutes away, then an engine will be assigned as a first responder. The engine personnel are all Paramedics and all of the engines have full Advanced Life Support capability and they will stay until the arrival of the MICU.

7. How can I get a copy of a Fire Report?

Fire reports may be obtained from the Fire Investigation Division. They can be reached Monday- Friday 08:00-05:00 at 972-291-1011

8. How do I request a tour of a fire station?

9. Does the Cedar Hill Fire Department have smoke alarms?

10. What is the best kind of fire extinguisher for my house?

A multi-purpose fire extinguisher is best for the home. Look for the rating to be at least 2A:10B:C on the label. This extinguisher can be used on any type of fire commonly found in the home. It will often be labeled A-B-C.

11. Can I get my blood pressure checked at the fire station?
