Boards & Commissions
The City of Cedar Hill appreciates the volunteer spirit of its citizens and serving on a board or commission is a great way to get more involved with your community.
The City Council appoints board members on annual basis. Board members serve in an advisory role and/or in carrying out functions required by local and state laws. Most board appointments are for a 2-year term. To learn more about the various City advisory boards and their duties and responsibilities, please click here .
Application Process
Applications for 2020 board appointments will be accepted starting on Monday, May 11, 2020 and continue through Friday, June 12, 2020 at 5pm. Late applications will not be accepted. To apply, please complete the online application.
Applications by mail will also be accepted. Click here to download a .pdf copy of the board application. Complete and mail your application to: Cedar Hill Government Center, Office of the City Secretary, 285 Uptown Boulevard, Cedar Hill, TX 75104.
City Council Interviews
Once the application period ends, the City Secretary’s Office will begin contacting all new applicants to schedule a short interview with the City Council at a special called City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 6pm. Depending on the number of applications received, the City Council may also meet and conduct interviews on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 6:30pm.
New Board Member Orientation
In accordance with an Order of the Office of the Governor, issued on March 16, 2020, the City of Cedar Hill will conduct the New Board Member Orientation meeting via ZOOM audio conference at 6:30pm on Thursday, July 23, 2020, in order to advance the public health goal of limiting face-to-face meetings (also called ’social distancing’) in an effort to slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
All newly appointed board members are required to participate in the new board member orientation.

Beautification, Environment, Sustainability Board
The BES Board develop comprehensive strategies to enhance beautification and for ongoing comprehensive clean up and makes recommendations on new and future initiatives to incorporate into the City's Sustainability Action Plan.

Building Appeals & Advisory Board
This 9-member board has jurisdiction over appeals regarding building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical codes. The Building Appeals and Advisory Board also acts as the Sign Appeals Board, hearing sign variances, and making recommendations to the City Council.

Capital Impact Fee Advisory Committee
The Capital Impact Fee Advisory Committee advises and assists the city in adopting and updating land use assumptions, capital improvements plans, and impact fees.

Cedar Hill Community Development Corporation
The 7-member board administers the half-cent community development sales tax, sets fund use policies, and programs.

Cedar Hill Economic Development Corporation
The board, consisting of 5 voting members and 5 ex-officio members, administers the 3/8-cent Economic Development Sales Tax. This board sets Economic Development policies and administers certain incentive programs.

Historic Downtown Advisory Board
This 9-member advisory board is responsible for organizing and maintaining a community effort to revitalize Cedar Hill's historic downtown.

Neighborhood Advisory Board
The 9-member board is advisory to Neighborhood Services and the City Council concerning matters involving neighborhoods and community affairs. The board assists Neighborhood Services in the creation, development, and implementation of programs designed to encourage, support, and strengthen neighborhoods. The board also provides communication between neighborhoods and city administration and serves as advocates for issues that impact and benefit the community at large.

Parks & Recreation Board
The 9-member board works with the Parks and Recreation staff on matters relating to the department.

Planning & Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission is a board that is appointed by the City Council to serve in an advisory role regarding land use and land development issues.The commission is made up of 7 Cedar Hill citizens who are appointed to 2-year, staggered terms. The commission’s charge is to advise and recommend to the City Council issues regarding the city’s master plan for development, zoning changes, platting, and site plan approval.

Tourism Advisory Board
The Tourism Advisory Board is responsible for appraising the city’s tourism initiatives, supporting Cedar Hill's brand, and making recommendations to the City Council of activities, programs and sponsorship opportunities to increase visitations and provide captivating visitor experiences.

Tri-City Animal Shelter Advisory Committee
The 10-member committee is advisory to the city councils of the cities of Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Duncanville on matters relating to the Tri-City Animal Shelter.

Zoning Board of Adjustments
This 5-member quasi-judicial board reviews requests for variances, administrative appeals, and special exceptions to the Zoning Ordinance.

Zula B. Wylie Library Board
The 10-member board is advisory to the City Council regarding present and future needs of the library as well as its policies.
