Parks & Recreation and other city departments will be celebrating Earth Fest all month long to recognize Earth Day (April 22) & Arbor Day (April 30). Arbor Day was Founded in 1972 — the centennial of the first Arbor Day observance — the Arbor Day Foundation is the largest 501(c)3 nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees. Trees help improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants, and provide wildlife habitats among many other benefits. The City of Cedar Hill has been designated as a Tree City USA for twelve years. Standards of certification for the program include: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
