Among Cedar Hill’s many distinguished communities, two stood out this year as Premier Neighborhoods: Winding Hollow and Cedar Crest.

“These neighborhoods did a great job in the last year of bringing their residents together,” says Neighborhood Services Manager Michelle Ebanks. “To be considered a Premier Neighborhood, they don’t have to accomplish a huge, impressive project. We look for stories of neighbors coming together to make their communities a better place to live.”

In addition to being recognized by City Council and the Neighborhood Advisory Board, both neighborhoods received monetary gifts to support future community-building activities.

About Winding Hollow, 2019 Premier Neighborhood Award Winner

East of Joe Wilson Road, along Bee Branch Creek is a quiet neighborhood, Winding Hollow. This friendly community was developed in 2000 and is now home to more than 200 households.

In 2015, after residents petitioned and organized their efforts, Winding Hollow became the City’s third Public Improvement District. The district is authorized to make improvements to its public spaces in collaboration with the Parks Department, such as constructing sidewalks, adding distinct aesthetic features, and expanding upon landscaping.

In the last year, the residents of Winding Hollow have organized and participated in several other community projects, including a spring cleanup event and a fall back-to-school drive, and their efforts have extended to improve residences. The neighborhood utilizes the free app Nextdoor to provide residents with landscaping tips and to connect neighbors needing help with home projects.

About Cedar Crest, 2019 Premier Neighborhood Runner-up
Bound between South Cedar Hill Road and Red Oak Creek, the neighborhood of Cedar Crest overlooks a scenic ridge. The community is home to more than 600 households, many of which are situated atop the wooded crest and along the creek tributaries that run throughout the area.

Showing that they are committed to making their neighborhood a great place to live, the residents of Cedar Crest distinguished themselves in every award category. The community hosts regular crime-watch meetings, organizes clean-up days, and annually participates in Cedar Hill’s National Night Out event.

About the Premier Neighborhood Awards

The City Council believes that by communicating the values of the community, others will begin reflecting, articulating, promoting, and protecting the distinctive character that will continue Cedar Hill’s success far into the future. The Premier Neighborhood Awards program was created in 2004 as an opportunity to shine a light on neighborhoods that demonstrate these values: people and relationships; stewardship; highest ethical standards, behavior, and integrity; and servant leadership.

Awards are presented by the Neighborhood Advisory Board, which recognizes the neighborhoods for achievement in communication, organizational activities, membership, community partnerships, leadership, and beautification. Applications for the 2020 Premier Neighborhood Awards will open in the summer. For more information, and to later apply, visit and select “Distinctive Character Program” on the Neighborhood Services page.
