This month, the Cedar Hill City Council will take action on the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget, which includes a recommentation for a four cent reduction in the the property tax rate to $0.657000 per $100 valuation. The proposed budget maintains the services, infrastructure, and amenities that are the foundation to everyday life in Cedar Hill for $4.68 per day for the average homeowner:

  • Police response, fire protection, emergency medical services that keep us safe.
  • Public parks and trails, library resources, and community events that connect us to our neighbors and bolster our physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Building inspections, code enforcement, neighborhood support and services, and city planning to keep our buildings and neighborhoods safe and clean.
  • Streets and public rights-of-way that reflect Cedar Hill’s character and allow us to travel safely to our destinations.
  • The proposed budget also funds two new traffic safety officers, public safety equipment, a neighborhood services coordinator, and additional resources for right-of-way maintenance.

Breaking Down Your Tax Bill

When a homeowner in Cedar Hill pays their annual property taxes, about 25 percent goes to the City of Cedar Hill and the rest to several other taxing entities, including the Cedar Hill Independent School District and Dallas or Ellis County. In addition, there are several other taxes, assessments, and fees that homeowners may pay to other entities each year. These include Dallas College, Parkland Hospital, Homeowner’s Associations, and Public Improvement Districts (PIDs).
