[ARCHIVED] Council Member Clifford R. Shaw Honored for 25 years of Service

On May 9, the Cedar Hill City Council will honor outgoing Council Member Clifford R. Shaw for his 25 years of service to Cedar Hill. First elected to Place 6 in 1998, Cliff has been active in the Cedar Hill community since the early 1990s, when he coached his children’s youth sports teams.

During his time in office, he has stewarded the City through a period of tremendous growth as the population increased from 28,000 to 50,000 residents, and the City developed more than six million square feet of retail and industrial development.

Cliff has been a strong advocate for parks, recreation, and open space in Cedar Hill and was instrumental in the development of many community amenities enjoyed today, including Valley Ridge Park, the Alan E. Sims Recreation Center, and more than 36 miles of multi-use trails, as well as the Lagoon at Virginia Weaver Park and Library, Museum, and Signature Park currently under construction. Cliff has been a champion for diversity and inclusion in Cedar Hill and an advocate for African American representation and participation in city government and the school district. He helped found an organization, diversity, and Equality, in Cedar Hill, which worked to elect the city’s first African American council member in 1995. The election to fill the vacancy for Place 6 will be held on May 6.
