Effective June 1, 2024, Cedar Hill City Council has adopted a new ordinance allowing food trucks to operate on private property, in designated areas, as part of a pilot program. 

How to register

  • Apply online for Mobile Food Vendor annual registration/license through the portal
  • Attach the completed registration application
  • Attach the notarized private property authorization form
  • Attach a copy of Dallas County permit
  • Attach a copy of Sales Tax and Use Tax permit
  • Attach proof of motor vehicle insurance for each vehicle to be used in the mobile food vending operation
  • If applicable, attach copy of Cedar Hill Fire permit

Operational Guidelines

  • Mobile Food Vendors may operate on private property with the owner's permission and registered with the City
  • Mobile Food Vendors shall not operate within a public park, public right-of-way, publicly owned property or site without written permission from the City Manager or designee
  • Mobile Food Vendors shall display at all times, Cedar Hill registration, Dallas County permit, and copy of Sales Tax and Use Tax permit
  • Mobile Food Vendors shall provide garbage facilities for employee and customer use and removed from the site at end of operations

Why do I need a Dallas County Mobile Food Unit permit?

House Bill 2878 was passed by the Texas State Legislature and became effective as of September 1, 2023. Under the new legislation, Mobile Food Unit operators must obtain a "county-wide" permit from Dallas County's Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division to operate in Dallas County pursuant to Tex. Health & Safety Code Section 437A.003.

How do I apply for a Dallas County Mobile Food Unit permit?

The application process is available online. Any vendor seeking a permit with Dallas County must schedule an appointment for inspection. Dallas County Environmental Health Division is located at 2121 Panoramic Circle, Dallas, TX 75212. Office hours are Tuesday - Friday: 8:30 am - 3:00 pm.

How do I know if I need a Cedar Hill Fire Permit?

If your mobile food unit has an appliance(s) that produces smoke or grease-laden vapors, a fire permit is required. You may apply online for a fire permit (food truck hood). An inspection by the Fire Marshal is required to complete the fire permit process. Permit fee is $75.

How long will the Cedar Hill registration be valid?

Mobile Food Vendors must register with the City annually. Expiration of the registration will be December 31, each calendar year. Operators must submit a new registration form prior to the expiration date. 

What is the cost of a Cedar Hill registration?

There is currently no fee collected for registration during the pilot program.
