Green Awards

In partnership with Waste Management, the Cedar Hill Chamber of Commerce, and the Beautification and Environmental Sustainability Board, the City of Cedar Hill awards a Chamber business and non-profit or civic organization that have implemented green initiatives distinctive to the character of Cedar Hill. All nominees will acknowledged at this event. The winners will be announced at the Chamber of Commerce Celebrating Business Awards (venue and schedule TBD). Green Business of the Year - $1,000 Award

Nominate a Chamber business that exhibits the highest level of integrity through ethical and honest business practives, excels in customer service, demonstrates a servant leadership philosophy through volunteer activities, promotes green initiatives through creating and fostering partnerships within the community, has a recycling program, and incorporates environmentally conscious practices that maintain the distinctive character of Cedar Hill.

The winner will be provided with a $1,000 check to continue implementing green initiatives in the community and a plaque in recognition of this accomplishment.

Green Project of the Year - $500 Award

Nominate a 501(c)(3) non-profit or civic organization that organized and implemented a project that promotes green initiatives, anti-litter efforts or sustainability in the community, demonstrates a servant leadership philosophy though the activity or project, an incorporates environmentally conscious practices that maintain the distinctive character of Cedar Hill between January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016. Examples include incorporating alternative energy in the facility practices, reduced energy or use of natural resources, such as water, or coordinating an educational outreach initiative to the community that supports sustainability.

The winner will be provided with a $500 check to continue implementing green initiatives in the community and a plaque in recognition of this accomplishment.

2017 Green Business of the Year - Batteries Plus Bulb

Batteries Plus Bulbs, as a corporation, places extreme emphasis on Green initiatives particularly around battery recycling and energy conservation. Each store is left to decide how it participates in the community with very specific guidelines set at the federal level for environmental mandates that must be met. They recycle hazardous light bulbs and batteries in an eco-friendly manner. They bear the cost of this recycling as a way to give back to their customers. In 2016 alone, they bore a net cost of more than $3000 for recycling. It is a cause that Batteries Plus Bulbs believe in as active members of this community.

2017 Green Project of the Year - Village Tech

The Village Tech sixth grade class is implementing a project in which they will help to promote the Zula B White Community Garden and to beautify the garden plots. The sixth graders will design and create signage for the individual plots and for the gardens. In addition, the team plans to build a green house so that the Cedar Hill Food Pantry garden plot can grow food all year round for the citizens of Cedar Hill. The team would use the grant money award to help beautify the community garden
